Georgia running backs coach Thomas Brown will follow Richt to Miami, and could fill a big role as he could be named co-offensive coordinator per a report from David Lake of 247Sports.

Brown could also potentially fill the role of running backs coach as Richt says he wants to be “more hands on with the offense” according to the report. Brown’s career has really taken off since securing his first coaching job in 2012, and it appears he has no signs of slowing down.

He was first a running backs coach at Chattanooga in 2012 and then he coached at Marshall in 2013, and Wisconsin in 2014 before finding a home with the ‘Dawgs in 2015. Among his students during his coaching journey was Melvin Gordon, whom he coached while he was with the Badgers.

This is a great hire for the Hurricanes. Any time you have a coaching staff, especially a new one, you want to have all coaches be on the same page. It is safe to say that these two gentleman have been on the same page since day one. Richt coached Brown from 2004-07, so it is safe to say there is familiarity for the duo.

From a football standpoint, this is a great hire as well. As mentioned, Brown’s career has been on the upswing ever since he entered the coaching ranks, and this was a tremendous move by Richt to grab him while he was still accessible.

He potentially will be in charge of revitalizing a rushing attack that ranked No. 117 in the country with 119.5 yards per game. It will not be an easy task, but when a program is in a rebuilding phase like the Hurricanes are, things take time.
