Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl: Cal vs Air Force TV Info, Live Stream, Prediction

Two very different offensive schemes will face off in what should be a competitive Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl game with Cal taking on Air Force.

Air Force’s triple option will try to frustrate and confuse California’s defense, while the Cal offense will try to sling the ball all around the field with quarterback Jared Goff.

The Air Force Falcons (8-5) average over 300 yards rushing per game and had some nice high points during the season, including beating Boise State 37-30 and winning their division in the Mountain West Conference.

Jacobi Owens surpassed the 1,000 rushing yards mark on the season with 1,009, and the next closest rusher is quarterback Karson Roberts with 674.

For the California Golden Bears (7-5) they’ll go as far as the right arm of Goff will take them. He leads an impressive offense that feeds off of the passing game with 4,252 yards and 37 passing touchdowns on the season coming from Goff who could be the first quarterback taken in the 2016 NFL Draft. After a rough patch in the middle of the year, Cal is entering the bowl with wins in two of their last three games.

Alongside Goff is talented running back Khalfani Muhammed, who averages close to seven yards per carry, and could see lots of touches if the Falcon’s defense can slow down Cal’s passing game.

Prediction

Air Force had some close games this season, but Cal had more, including a pretty tough schedule to work with.

Air Force has a big advantage with the No. 43 ranked passing efficiency defense, which went up against Michigan State and Boise State in the regular season. Since Cal’s rushing defense rates in the bottom 100, Air Force should have a tremendous advantage sticking with its strengths.

Goff, though far from perfect, is considered a likely top-10 draft pick, and will be the best player on the field and if he is on target, then Air Force will have a tough time leaving with the win. I like Goff to throw for more than 300 yards and lead Cal to a narrow victory against Air Force and declare for the NFL Draft shortly after the game.
