The Arkansas Razorbacks picked up one of their biggest commitments of the 2016 class with four-star running back Devwah Whaley committing to play for Bret Bielema and the Hogs.

Devwah Whaley (Beaumont, Texas. Beaumont Central) committed to Arkansas prior to the Under Armour All-American game and becomes the 17th member of Bret Bielema’s 2016 class that moved up from No. 30 to No. 24, according to the 247Sports Team Rankings.

The 6-foot, 209-pound running back was one of the top targets on the board for Arkansas and they got him to bolster the backfield where Arkansas likely loses Alex Collins to the NFL Draft and Jonathan Williams is out of eligibility and headed to the NFL.

He has a chance to compete for early playing time as a freshman which undoubtedly played a large part in his decision to commit to Arkansas over Texas and his other offers.

Whaley previously was committed to play for the Georgia Bulldogs but backed off that pledge 11 days later. Arkansas put on the full-court press for the nation’s No. 119 overall recruit, No. 4 running back and the No. 18 recruit in the state of Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Five days before he decommitted from Georgia, Whaley received an in-home visit from Jamal Singleton who recruited him along with Clay Jennings, and five days after he got an in-home visit from Bielema and two other Arkansas coaches as they let him know he was their No. 1 target.
