Rahshaun Smith committed to the Clemson Tigers during the Under Armour All-American Game.

Things are great for the Clemson Tigers who are undefeated and will play the Alabama Crimson Tide in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Jan. 11. And things got even better for Dabo Swinney’s program on Saturday with the commitment of four-star linebacker Rahshaun Smith (Bradenton, FL. IMG Academy).

Smith is the nation’s No. 74 overall recruit, No. 2 inside linebacker and the No. 13 recruit in the state of Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. During the recruiting process he’s developed from a one-time defensive end prospect to a linebacker and elicited comparisons to former Clemson linebacker Stephone Anthony.

He was previously committed to Clemson but backed off his pledge before the start of his senior year and opened up his recruitment. He had offers from more than 30 schools and took official visits to Oregon, LSU, Auburn and Maryland in addition to a Dec. 11 trip to Clemson before the dead period.

Before making his commitment at the Under Armour All-American Game, he named Clemson, LSU and Auburn his finalists.

Smith is the second inside linebacker in Clemson’s 2016 class, joining four-star recruit Tre Lamar and joins a class that is stocking up on defensive players with No. 3 recruit Dexter Lawrence and No. 11 weak-side defensive end Xavier Kelly who headline Swinney’s class.

He’s the fourteenth commitment for the class that ranked No. 20 in the nation and No. 3 in the ACC before his commitment. With Clemson playing for the national title and a little more than a month until National Signing Day, you can expect them to move up and possibly crack the top 10 by then.
