Former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Trevor Knight is transferring to Texas A&M and is eligible right away.

Trevor Knight has found a new home with the Texas A&M Aggies, according to George Schroeder of USA Today who reported the former Oklahoma quarterback is transferring to the SEC to play for Kevin Sumlin.

Knight announced his plans to transfer out of the program after the regular season and Texas A&M was immediately at the front of his list of options after the transfers of former five-star recruits and former starters Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray.

With Allen and Murray out of the picture, Sumlin needed to find an answer at the sports’ most important position and he found one with starting experience in Knight.

He earned the starting job during his freshman year at Oklahoma two years ago and led the Sooners to a Sugar Bowl win with four touchdown passes against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

He couldn’t build on that performance in 2014 and was inconsistent and later injured. In 2015, Knight couldn’t beat out Baker Mayfield who led Oklahoma to the College Football Playoff and served as his back-up before demoted to third-team duties for the final two games of the year.

Knight has already graduated so he won’t have to sit out a year due to NCAA transfer rules and will be eligible immediately to compete for the starting quarterback job with Jake Hubenak who started the Music City Bowl loss against the Lousiville Cardinals after the Allen and Murray transfers.

According to the report from Schroeder, Knight also considered the Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers and Kansas State Wildcats before committing to Texas A&M.
