Javon McKinley committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish during the U.S. Army All-American Game over Washington and Oregon.

Notre Dame football fans got one of their top targets with the commitment from Javon McKinley (Corona, CA.Centennial) in the fourth quarter of the Army All-American Game. He is the nation’s No. 107 overall recruit, No. 18 receiver and the No. 17 recruit in the state of California, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The 6-2, 194-pound McKinley picked the Fighting Irish over Washington and Oregon. He also took official visits to Tennessee and UCLA but they didn’t have hats on the table when he made his choice.

Early playing time and the education he can receive from Notre Dame was his two primary reasons given when asked during the announcement why he picked Brian Kelly and the Irish over his other options.

McKinley had a big senior season with 53 receptions for 1,145 yards and 12 touchdowns on the heels of his breakout junior season that made him a national recruit when he hauled in 97 catches for 2,062 yards and 25 touchdowns. He can make plays on the perimeter or in the slot so Notre Dame is getting a receiver they can plug in at any of the wide receiver positions in their offense.

He is the third-highest commitment for Kelly and Notre Dame, behind offensive tackles Tommy Kraemer and Liam Eichenberg and gives the Irish 22 commitments for a class that ranks No. 10 in the nation.

Notre Dame is in great shape to add to their class between now and National Signing Day on Feb. 3 and could make a move into the top five if they can get the commitments from a pair of five-star recruits in linebacker Caleb Kelly and wide receiver Demetris Robertson.
