National Signing Day 2016: Predicting where top 30 uncommitted recruits sign
28. Brian Burns
- Location/High School: Fort Lauderdale FL./American Heritage
- 247Sports Composite Rank: No. 84
- 247Sports Position Rank: No. 6 WDE
A menace of the defensive side of the ball. Brian Burns heads into Signing Day with two programs in particular vouching for his services, Florida and Georgia both want Burns and it seems that Florida may have the recruiting edge as Signing Day draws nearer.
Listed as a weak-side defensive end per 247Sports, Burns would join a crowded but talented group in that regard. Antonious Clayton (Vienna GA. Dooly County), Jordan Smith (Lithonia GA. Lithonia), and Jachai Polite (Daytona Beach FL. Mainland) are all defensive ends, while Polite is the only other weak-side defensive end to this point. The Gator class is ranked No. 7 nationally and No. 4 in the SEC per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Burns could be an excellent run-stopper for the Gators. They only gave up 120.6 yards per game last year, part of a defense that ranked No. 13 overall in the 2015 season. He does a great job of filling in any gaps that may be open and he uses his quickness to get into the backfield in a hurry to stop a play from developing. He could be a tremendous asset against a team like the Crimson Tide, who tend to run the ball often.
I see him staying in-state and joining a Gator program that is on the upswing once again.
Prediction: Florida
