Four-star quarterback Dwayne Haskins made it official today with his commitment to the Ohio State Buckeyes who now have the nation’s top recruiting class.

Dwayne Haskins (Potomac, MD. The Bullis School) was thought to be the signature recruit for the Maryland Terrapins for the 2016 class, but now he’ll be the signature recruit for Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Haskins wanted to be a Buckeye but with Ohio State focused on four-star quarterback Tristen Wallace, Haskins committed to Maryland, but when Wallace wasn’t going to be in the plans for Ohio State any longer, the interest was renewed. According to 247Sports, Haskins was a silent commitment for Ohio State since mid-December and has been recruiting players to Columbus.

The 6-3, 198-pound Haskins is the nation’s No. 80 overall recruit, No. 7 pro-style quarterback and the No. 3 recruit in the state of Maryland, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The Under Armour All-American going public wasn’t the only bit of good news for Ohio State on Monday as former Maryland commit Keandre Jones (Olney, MD. Good Counsel) followed Haskins lead and committed to the Buckeyes.

Jones is the nation’s No. 111 overall recruit and No. 9 outside linebacker, according to the Composite Rankings.

With the commitments from the two Maryland recruits, the Buckeyes reclaimed the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class they previously held for much of the football season until LSU overtook them recently.

With National Signing Day on Feb. 3, the recruiting wars are heating up so this is only the beginning as Ohio State looks to hold off the likes of LSU, Michigan and Alabama for the recruiting title, which will help their pursuit of Big Ten and national titles after that.
