Ex-Texas Tech quarterback Davis Webb transfers to Colorado
Texas Tech Red Raiders graduate transfer Davis Webb has committed to play for the Colorado Buffaloes.
Davis Webb is transferring to Colorado, according to Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman and is eligible to play immediately in 2016. The 6-5, 212-pound Webb has a clear path to the starting lineup with incumbent starter Sefo Liufau expected to be out with a Lisfranc injury.
Webb turned down an opportunity to visit the Auburn Tigers who have a muddled quarterback situation with Jeremy Johnson and Sean White as well as some other teams from the Power Five conferences to play for head coach Mike MacIntyre and the Buffs.
“I just know it’s a good fit with Colorado,” Webb said. “I really like what Coach Mac (Mike MacIntyre) and (OC) Coach (Brian) Lindgren are doing with the offense. I like that they are scheduled to play eight preseason Top 25 teams. I’ll have a good chance to showcase my ability on the road at Oregon and at Michigan. I will get plenty of exposure to pursue my dream of playing in the NFL.
“I really feel Colorado is just a couple of players from taking that next step to where the Colorado Buffaloes have been before (in the Top 25) and where Colorado should be.”
Webb threw for 2,718 yards and 20 touchdowns as a freshman in 2013 when he helped lead the Red Raiders to a 7-0 start and competed with now-Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield for the starting job. Webb looked like the next great quarterback to come out of Texas Tech when he threw for four touchdowns and 403 yards in the Holiday Bowl win over No. 21 Arizona State but interceptions and losing five of six games in the first half of his sophomore season cost him his job.

In came Patrick Mahomes and he never relinquished the job and handles the quarterback duties in 2015 and only attempted 41 passes in parts of five games. He could have pouted and been a distraction but he didn’t which is a testament to his character and if he can recapture the form he showed in 2013, Colorado could put some Pac-12 teams on upset alert and Webb will help his cause for playing in the NFL.
