The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are still in the running for five-star recruit Demetris Robertson who would put the 2016 recruiting class over the top.

Brian Kelly and his Notre Dame football staff have already assembled a very good class so far. The Irish are on pace to have their highest rated recruiting class since 2013. So far the Irish have accumulated 12 four-stars and one five-star recruit. Notre Dame still has a few scholarships available and with those they are gunning after five-star recruit, Demetris Robertson.

Robertson is a 6’1″ 180-pound receiver from Savannah, Georgia. He is currently listed as an athlete according to Rivals but is mostly likely to be a wide receiver in college. Robertson’s top three schools are Notre Dame, Alabama and Georgia. If the Irish land Robertson, he would be the highest-rated receiver to commit to Notre Dame since Michael Floyd.

The Irish receiving corps is a bit in flux after losing Will Fuller, Chris Brown and Amir Carlisle to the NFL and graduation. Robertson could come in and easily make an impact on offense for the Irish. The wide receiver position is one that ND is deep at, but they lack a deep play threat. Robertson would bring that deep play ability immediately, so landing the Georgia native would put the 2016 class over the top.

Coach Kelly is currently bringing in three other receivers in this year’s class in Javon McKinley, Chase Claypool and Kevin Stepherson. Robertson would have the potential to be best out of all of them.

Robertson does have the flexibility to play multiple positions, so he could have a future in the defensive backfield.

Irish Illustrated’s Anna Hickey reported today that it is becoming clear Robertson won’t declare until after National Signing Day which is only a week away.

If Irish fans can be patient, he could put the class over the top.
