The Alabama Crimson Tide received the commitment from four-star cornerback Nigel Knott on Monday.

Nick Saban and his Alabama football team are poised to finish the recruiting cycle with a flurry with several uncommitted elite recruits Alabama targets. One of those targets didn’t want to National Signing Day on Wednesday to make his announcement as four-star cornerback Nigel Knott committed to the Crimson Tide on Monday.

The 5-11, 175-pound Knott (Madison, MS. Germantown) is the nation’s No. 62 overall recruit, No. 7 cornerback and the No. 4 recruit in the state of Mississippi, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The Under Armour All-American picked the national champions over Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Oregon.

Knott is extremely athletic with the reactive quickness and change of direction skills to be an elite playmaker in the Alabama secondary. He, like most high school corners, needs to work on his technique to develop into the player that could potentially blossom into an All-SEC cornerback, so it’s a good thing he’s going to play for Saban, the best secondary coach in the world.

Further, he needs to get stronger and put on weight, which he will be able to do at Alabama, so he may be a candidate to redshirt as a freshman before competing for a starting job or spot on the two-deep in the coming years.

Knott is the only corner in this year’s class that currently ranks fifth in the nation and No. 3 in the SEC, according to the 247Sports Team Rankings. By the end of National Signing Day, the Tide could make a case for the No. 2 class, but extending their run to five straight years with the No. 1 recruiting class may come to an end with LSU’s impressive haul.
