The Alabama football program added five-star linebacker Mack Wilson on National Signing Day, helping the Crimson Tide shoot up the recruiting rankings.

As LSU and Ohio State were taking aim at the No. 1 recruiting ranking during the 2016 cycle, the Alabama Crimson Tide waited patiently for some of the nation’s highest rated uncommitted prospects to make their final decisions.

In a live announcement on ESPNU Wednesday, five-star linebacker Mack Wilson became the latest blue-chipper to join the reigning national champions, which helped push Nick Saban’s most recent class into the top two in the nation, behind just the Buckeyes.

Ranked No. 15 overall in the 247Sports Composite, Wilson was the No. 2 outside linebacker recruit in the country and the second-ranked recruit from the state of Alabama behind Ben Davis, who signed with the Tide earlier in the day.

Naturally, Wilson was one of the most highly sought after players in the nation. In addition to Alabama, Mack strongly considered in-state rival Auburn and Georgia, who recently hired former Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart as head coach. Mack also made an official visit to Florida.

As a senior at Carver High School in Montgomery, Ala., Wilson recorded 115 total tackles, including 75 solo stops, five sacks, one interception, four forced fumbles and 17 quarterback hurries.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 236 pounds, Wilson is physically mature enough to play linebacker for the Crimson Tide as a true freshman. Of course, even with three starters gone from last year’s linebacker corps, the competition to fill those spots will be fierce because of the former four and five-star players that have waited in the wings.
