The 2016 BYU football recruiting class features some talented players in the first class for head coach Kalani Sitake.

New BYU head coach Kalani Sitake has the reputation of being a good recruiter and has likewise put together a staff he thinks consists of exceptional recruiters. One member of the staff is former Heisman winner Ty Detmer, who has had a hand in the big BYU recruiting efforts.

Now that Sitake’s first class is in the books, we can speculate more on these newcomers now, but we’ll have to wait until these players hit the field before knowing whether BYU really got the right guys.

The newcomer who should make an immediate impact is junior college transfer Jonah Trinnaman, who will play receiver. BYU loses senior receivers, Mitch Matthews, Devon Blackmon and Terenn Houk, so he should get an opportunity to compete for a starting position immediately.

Another solid recruit who could compete for early playing time is defensive lineman Handsome Tanielu, who like Trinnaman, transfers from Snow College. Current BYU linebacker Fred Warner is excited to get a chance to be on the same field as his brother Troy Warner, who will likely be playing corner.

Even though the official recruiting class is set, Sitake still has some recruiting-like work to do for this upcoming season. This foremost includes ensuring fifth-year quarterback Taysom Hill returns to BYU, as opposed to transferring.
