Clemson Football: 5-star CB Trayvon Mullen commits to Tigers
One of the nation’s top cornerbacks has found a home as Trayvon Mullen committed to the Clemson Tigers on National Signing Day.
It appeared it was a two-team race for one of the nation’s top shutdown corners as the LSU Tigers and Florida State Seminoles were going neck-and-neck for the four-star cornerback leading up to National Signing Day. When the big day finally arrived and Mullen was on the clock, he pulled a surprise and made his choice to continue his football career with the Clemson Tigers.

Louisville and TCU were also in the mix for Mullen, but it was coach Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football team that presented the best opportunity for Mullen and where he could be successful over the next three-four years. He said it was his dream school growing up during his announcement on ESPNU and he just went with his heart and feels like he can come in right away and help lead them to a national championship.
The 6-1, 168-pound Mullen is the nation’s 60 overall recruit, No. 6 cornerback and the No. 10 recruit in the state of Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The U.S. Army All-American had nearly 50 offers from teams all across the country.
He is the highest-ranked cornerback recruit since they signed Mackensie Alexander three years ago and the player who Mullen hopes to replace in the Clemson starting lineup.

Mullen’s best trait is his elite length he brings to the position. At 6-1 and possessing a long wingspan, Mullen looks the part of a future shutdown corner who contends for All-SEC/ACC honors. He is rangy, athletic and has good quickness and sure, he could be a step quicker or react a shade faster, but his length helps him make up in those areas.
