The Ole Miss Rebels recruiting class added Texas safety Deontay Anderson during an announcement on National Signing Day.

The Ole Miss football team has recruited exceptionally well under Hugh Freeze and that trend continues in 2016 as the Rebels added to their recruiting class on National Signing Day with the addition of four-star safety Deontay Anderson.

Anderson (Manvel, TX. Manvel) is the nation’s No. 53 overall recruit, No. 2 safety and the No. 8 player in the state of Texas, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He picked the Rebels over Texas and LSU, but there was no real drama or suspense when Anderson made his choice after naming Ole Miss his leader on November 11.

Ole Miss was his last official visit on Jan. 29 to further send home the belief that he was Oxford-bound to continue to build up the program that has seen the Rebels turn into a consistent winner over the last three seasons that includes wins over Alabama the last two seasons.

The Under Armour All-American 6-1 and 192 pounds so he is a bit undersized and won’t be confused for an in-the-box safety but his instincts, closing speed, ball skills and playmaking ability should mean Anderson develops into a dynamic free safety in the Rebels scheme in the coming years. He also has experience as a returner and could help the Ole Miss special teams as well as contributing in the defensive backfield.

Ole Miss entered National Signing Day with the nation’s No. 4 class and the No. 2 class in the SEC, according to the 247Sports Team Rankings and with the addition of Anderson the Rebels could finish with their best class in program history.

Will that be enough for Freeze to lead Ole Miss to an SEC championship?
