The nation’s top junior college player, Jonathan Kongbo, committed to the Tennessee football team during an announcement on National Signing Day.

National Signing Day began with the Tennessee Volunteers getting the commitment from four-star safety Nigel Warrior and the good news kept coming for head coach Butch Jones and the Vols.

Jonathan Kongbo (Arizona Western College) the top player from the junior college ranks signed with the Vols approximately two hours after Warrior as the Vols look to have a banner day on National Signing Day with a pair of dynamic defenders who should play a part in the team’s quest for the SEC East title in 2016.

Kongbo picked the Vols over Florida State, Ole Miss and USC. He previously considered Washington, Oregon and Alabama before trimming his list two weeks ago.

The 6-5.5, 265-pound defensive end has the prototypical size teams covet in an edge rusher who can also hold up in run support. He is still so raw as a football player after only beginning to play football as a high school senior when he played in six games for Holy Cross in Surrey, B.C.

He originally enrolled at Wyoming where he redshirted as a freshman in 2014 before transferring to Arizona Western last year where he was a freshman All-American.

With Kongbo providing a pass rush threat opposite All-SEC end Derek Barnett and returning outside linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin along with rising sophomores and former five-star recruits Shy Tuttle and Kahlil McKenzie in the middle of the Vols line, Tennessee should have one of the best defensive lines in the SEC and perhaps the entire country.
