The Tennessee football program got things underway on National Signing Day with the addition of four-star safety Nigel Warrior.

Nigel Warrior (Suwanee, GA. Peachtree Ridge) was the first to get the National Signing Day festivities underway and the four-star safety got things rolling by committing to Butch Jones and the Tennessee Volunteers.

Warrior is the nation’s 58 overall recruit, No. 4 safety and the No. 7 recruit in the state of Georgia, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The 6-0, 186-pound Warrior was a U.S. Army All-American this season and had three interceptions and 30 tackles for his team that finished the year with an 8-4 record.

He picked the Vols over Auburn, Alabama and LSU to join the Tennessee football program that has made significant strides under Jones who has totally built the Vols roster from the ground up with some loaded recruiting classes since arriving on Rocky Top.

The Vols entered National Signing Day with the nation’s No. 22 ranked class and the No. 8 class in the SEC, according to the 247Sports Team Rankings.

The addition of the elite safety will see the Vols crack the top 20 and depending on what else happens during signing day could finish there as Jones hopes this class will help push the team over the top.

Many are projecting Tennessee to win the SEC East this year in part because of the recruiting classes Jones has had the last three years and Warrior could be a big part of that success if he’s able to crack a spot on the team’s two-deep depth chart as a true freshman.

He should be able to find a spot on special teams initially, at least, before working his way up the depth chart at safety.
