Texas A&M Football Recruiting: Aggies announce 2016 class
The Texas A&M Aggies have welcomed a new crop of talented players to campus, announcing the 2016 Texas A&M football recruiting class on National Signing Day.
Oh, where have all the five-stars gone?
The Texas A&M Aggies landed, at least, one player in each of head coach Kevin Sumlin’s first four recruiting classes that were rated as a five-star talent in the 247Sports Composite. However, that streak has come to an end in 2016.
A&M’s 2016 class is ranked No. 17 nationally and No. 7 in the SEC, but the Aggies are missing the elite talent they found in recent years in players like Myles Garrett, Daylon Mack, Christian Kirk, Ricky Seals-Jones and Speedy Noil – as well as recently transferred quarterbacks Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray. Instead, only one player ranked among the nation’s top 100 high school prospects (Justin Madubuike, No. 56) will be joining the Aggies in College Station this fall.
While the 2016 Texas A&M recruiting class lacks the star power of recent years, there are seven four-star standouts, including early enrollee all-purpose back Trayveon Williams, and 12 three-star players in this year’s class, which makes it a deep group despite the lack of top-end talent.
The Aggies landed two big cornerbacks in 6-foot-1, 170-pound Trayvon Fuller and 6-foot-2, 184-pound Charles Oliver, both of whom are ranked among the nation’s top 300 prospects and could compete for early playing time in A&M’s improved secondary. Talented defensive ends Madubuike and Mark Jackson, Jr. aren’t likely to keep Garrett or Daeshon Hall off the field, but the four-star defenders add solid depth for the Aggies front seven.

Kellen Diesch, a 6-foot-7, 270-pound offensive lineman ranked No. 105 overall and No. 10 among tackles could also be in the mix for early snaps.
