The Boston College Eagles are making a serious effort to upgrade the facilities on campus in a $200 million project that will bring an indoor field house.

College athletics is an arms race where facilities often determine the quality of recruit you can attract to play for your university. At Boston College, they are making a big investment to upgrade the on-campus facilities after announcing on Monday the university will have three projects totaling $200 million and bring a recreational center, athletics playing fields and an athletics field house.

“These new facilities will provide benefits for all BC students and student-athletes,” said Athletic Director Brad Bates. “We need the financial support of all of our alumni who have benefitted from their BC education to provide opportunities for the next generation of BC students. The athletics field house sets an example of what we can do when our alumni and friends offer their support for our athletics initiatives.

“We are excited for the future of BC Athletics.”

This is especially good news for Boston College football coach Steve Addazio who will have an indoor facility to conduct spring practices inside during the still-chilly temperatures in early spring months in New England.

Further, this will be a treat for the student-athletes who had to endure the elements but also for the recruits Addazio will be recruiting to Chestnut Hill because recruits like new, flashy things like this.

“This announcement represents a commitment from Boston College to give our students the best facilities possible.  We are very excited for an indoor facility that will provide our student-athletes an opportunity to develop throughout the winter months.”
