Notre Dame Fighting Irish receiver Will Fuller steals the show among wide receivers with a scorching time in the 40 at the NFL Combine

Will Fuller got things going early on Saturday morning, with one of the fastest 40 times from a receiver in the past 10 years. His 4.32 40 time ranked sixth among all wide receiver combine participants.

The time he posted was faster than last year’s top rookie receiver Amari Cooper who ran a 4.42 and the best receiver in the NFL, Antonio Brown, who ran a 4.57

The way the rest of the wide receivers stacked up leaves Fuller in a good position among others in his position group.

Will Fuller has been projected as a top five wide receiver, but sliding into the second round of the draft. But offenses are taking kind to those speed guys who can stretch the field and go vertical, which is why this performance at the 40 might have elevated Fuller’s stock to get into the upper half of the second round, if not one of last three picks or so in the first round.

As a junior, Fuller recorded 62 catches for 1258 yards and 14 touchdowns. That marks his second consecutive 1000 yard season in college, as he did so in 2014, hauling in 76 catches for 1094 yards and 15 touchdowns. He’s going to be a smaller receiver, but his speed is what any team can use if they’re lacking some offensive playmakers.

This was a slower receiver group overall, with only a handful running under 4.45. Many wide receivers ran around the 4.5 mark, if not higher. Given the lack of speed in this draft class, Fuller’s time might increase his stock even. Laquon Treadwell, the highest ranked wide receiver in the draft class opted against running the 40.
