Four-star quarterback Jake Fromm decommitted from the Alabama Crimson Tide and committed to the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Georgia football recruiting efforts under first-year head coach Kirby Smart have taken a new twist with Mark Richt no longer in Athens. The former Bulldogs head coach didn’t seem to show much interest in local four-star quarterback recruit Jake Fromm (Warner Robins, GA. Houston County) who has been committed to Alabama.

However, with Smart coming to town, Fromm became a priority for the team and that pursuit of one of the top quarterback recruits in the country paid off for as Fromm decommitted from Alabama and committed to Georgia on Thursday morning.

The 6-3, 220-pound Fromm is the nation’s No. 64 overall recruit, No. 4 pro-style passer and the No. 6 recruit in the Peach State, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Fromm grew up a fan of Georgia and a recent visit to Athens convinced him staying in the state and playing for the program he grew up cheering for was too much to pass up.

"Officially a Dawg!! Feels good to be home!!!⚫️"

“It is awesome, what a great chance to be home and play in front of your home state,” Fromm tells Rusty Mansell of 247Sports. “The people you grew up around, it was tough to tell the in-state people I was going somewhere else (Alabama), but what a better situation now to tell those people why I am coming back and that is something I will not take lightly.”

Fromm is the sixth commit for Smart’s 2017 class that ranks seventh in the nation and second in the SEC, according to the 247Sports team rankings.

With last year’s No. 1 quarterback recruit, Jacob Eason on campus at Georgia, Fromm may have to wait to get his opportunity to start for Georgia, but he’s clearly not shying away from the competition by committing to Georgia over Alabama.
