Updated look at the 2017 football recruiting class rankings.

Spring football practice is underway at most colleges as teams begin to put last season in the rear-view mirror and take a step toward their upcoming 2016 season. It’s a time to check on the progress of injured and recovering players and a time to see freshmen who enrolled early and if they’re ready to play a role in the fall.

Teams hold their spring games throughout the month of April but other than quarterback competitions that won’t be determined until late August and medical reports there isn’t a whole lot to get excited about.

That is unless you factor in recruiting which never gets a day off from the fan’s perspective and rarely gets a day off for the coaches and recruits, so let’s take an early look at the 2017 football recruiting class rankings.

The rankings come courtesy of the 247Sports Composite Rankings and will automatically update, so you can bookmark this page to stay current on where your team ranks.

The Ohio State Buckeyes had the No. 2 class last cycle after Alabama passed them on National Signing Day, but have a commanding lead over the Oklahoma Sooners and national runner-up Clemson Tigers.

Usual suspects like Florida State, Alabama (who has a commitment from No. 1 recruit Najee Harris) and Georgia find themselves right behind Mark Richt and the Miami Hurricanes in the top seven. But there’re some non-traditional recruiting powers in close pursuit with the Baylor Bears, North Carolina Tar Heels and Kentucky Wildcats rounding out the top 10.

Lurking just outside the top 10 are USC, Texas, Notre Dame, Michigan and LSU in the top 20. You can bet these teams will be in the top 10 when the classes are complete next February. Which means teams like Baylor, UNC and Kentucky’s place in the top 10 could be short-lived.

Only six of the top 25 recruits are committed to a school at the time of publishing so this ranking is due to change often over the next 11 months.
