The Golden Domers land yet another recruit on the offensive side of the all

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are off to a great start in recruiting for the class of 2017, adding to the class with a commitment on Saturday morning from four-star quarterback Avery Davis.

He ranks as the No. 7 player at his position and No. 213 overall, regardless of position, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He was on campus for an unofficial visit when he committed.

The four-star quarterback held offers to Oregon State, Purdue, Texas Tech and Utah, among others, but all signs pointed to Notre Dame. Davis was in communication with multiple Big 12 schools including Oklahoma, TCU and Texas, but decided to end his recruitment and pledge his commitment to Notre Dame.

This now marks the fifth commitment for the Fighting Irish, their fourth four-star recruit. All five of their commitments are on offense, with two offensive line and two tight ends, the perfect complement for Davis. The class is currently ranked 11th in the nation according to 247Sports. Notre Dame finished with the No. 15 class of 2016 and will strive to top that for 2017.

And Davis is going to want all the help he can get. He’s a bit on the smaller side, checking in at 5’11’ and 192 pounds. His speed is going to have to work with him with his smaller size, cautious of being a throw-first quarterback and not always relying on his feet.

At Cedar Hill High School, Davis threw for 2,148 yards and 25 touchdowns to just four interceptions. His mobility was also a factor, running for 873 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Notre Dame will have a quarterback battle this offseason, with junior DeShone Kizer and senior Malik Zaire. After a redshirt year for Davis, you figure he’ll get his chance to win the backup job to Brandon Wimbush.
