Keyshawn Johnson Jr. will not follow in his father’s footsteps at USC and committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Wednesday.

After making numerous trips to Nebraska over the last year, four-star receiver Keyshawn Johnson Jr. (Mission Viejo, CA. Calabasas) committed to Nebraska on Wednesday to play for Mike Riley who was his famous father’s offensive coordinator at USC.

Johnson is the nation’s No. 220 overall recruit regardless of position, No. 27 receiver and the No. 26 recruit in the state of California, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

“My dad (Keyshawn Johnson Sr.) was coached by Riley (at USC) and he’s had success throughout his career,” he said, via 247Sports. “Coach Riley did that for my dad so I feel like he’d be able to do that for me. I had a chance to work with wide receivers coach Keith Williams at their camp and he coaches me like my dad does. That’s how I like to be coached.”

The 6-1, 195-pound Johnson was a frequent visitor to Lincoln with six visits in the last year. He visited last March for the first time, attended the school’s spring game in April, came to a camp in the summer, took an unofficial visit for the Nebraska-Wisconsin game, attended the Nebraska-Michigan basketball in January and attended Junior Day March 12.

With the commitment from Johnson, Nebraska now has three committments for the 2017 class with three-star receiver Javeon McQuitty and three-star outside linebacker Willie Hampton in tow.

The class ranks No. 34 overall and No. 8 in the Big Ten, according to the 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings.

Their ranking could improve in a big way if two of Johnson’s prep teammates follow him to Nebraska. The Huskers have offers out to four-star recruit and No. 8 pro-style quarterback Tristan Gebbia and five-star recruit and No. 1 cornerback and No. 6 overall prospect Darnay Holmes.
