Now, for 2017, they’re already off to a fast start, compiling a recruiting class now ranked No. 30 overall. That is in part due to their latest commitment, Ellis Brooks, a four-star outside linebacker out of Richmond, Virginia.

He is ranked No. 17 among all outside linebackers and No. 209 regardless of position, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Brooks held offers to Michigan, Notre Dame and South Carolina, among others. He ended his recruitment process early on Thursday morning with his commitment.

"Officially committed 100% to Duke University!!!"

This now gives Duke their fourth commitment of the 2017 class and the first on the defensive side of the ball. They have had great success on the east coast, landing commitments from four different states now including Florida, Georgia and Tennessee to go along with Brooks out of Virginia.
