The Philadelphia Eagles landed one of the greatest defensive players to ever play in the NFL back in the 1949 draft. But his talents didn’t stop on the defensive side of the ball. He also played center throughout his career, becoming one of the most dominant two-way players to ever play the game.

With the Philadelphia Eagles, he won two championships. He was selected to the Pro Bowl and was named All-Pro 10 times throughout his career.

Bednarik had a reputation as being a hard-nosed guy, serving 14 years in the league, only missing a total of three games. His number, 60, has been retired by the Philadelphia Eagles, one of only eight in the history of the illustrious franchise.

At the college ranks, hailing from the University of Pennsylvania, he made such an impact that there is now an award in his honor, given to the best defensive player in college.
