NFL Draft: 10 biggest quarterback busts of all-time
By Gabe Encinas
Another Oregon Duck product here that was taken third overall, only to disappoint.
He was a Heisman Trophy finalist at Oregon and went on to win Pac-10 Offensive Player fo the Year, ending his college career with a bang in the 2002 Fiesta Bowl, routing the Colorado Buffaloes, sure to make NFL scouts put a little more thought into Harrington.
Harrington took over as the starter in week three, only to 3-9 in his time as a starter. He completed just over 50 percent of his passes, throwing for 12 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Still, he took that experience into the 2003 season, where he started the entire season.
The Lions ended with a 5-11 record. Still, they remained loyal to Harrington, giving then nod for the 2004 season, only to go 6-10 in that season. In 2005, he went 5-7 as a starter and the writing on the wall was becoming clear.
The Lions signed both Jon Kitna and Josh McCown in the offseason, trading Harrington to the Dolphins for a fifth-round pick, straight up.
In Miami, he took over after week five after Dante Culpepper went down to injury. He started 11 games only to go 5-6. The Dolphins did not re-sign him, allowing him to sign with Falcons for two years and $6 million dollars.
He would go on to start 10 games with the Falcons, going 3-7 in that span. from there, his NFL career came to an end after the Falcons cut him to manage the salary cap. He ended with an overall record of 27-55 as a starting quarterback in the National Football League.
