Here’s how you can watch the Auburn football spring game and what you should be looking for when the Tigers take the field.

To say last year was a dissappointment for the Auburn Tigers would be a vast understatement. Gus Malzahn’s team was picked to win the SEC at last year’s SEC Media Days, but quarterback issues and a porous defense resulted in the Tigers finishing in last place in the SEC West.

Granted, the SEC West is the toughest division in college football but their overall 7-6 record was not was expected of them and another similar season could be the end for Malzahn on the Plains.

The spring game is not a time for hot seat talk, but it is a time for Malzahn and Auburn to move past last year’s forgettable season and move forward with what could be a bounceback year.

There’s plenty of room for improvement on offense after quarterback Jeremy Johnson went from preseason media darling to riding the bench in the middle of the season. Maybe he just wasn’t ready last year and felt too much pressure? If he can’t figure it out, they’ll hope Sean White can after getting starting experience late last year.

What will help whoever is the starting quarterback will be a renewed commitment to the running game.

Peyton Barber is off to the NFL after declaring early but Jovon Robinson, Roc Thomas and Kerryon Johnson bring a lot to the table and give Malzahn and offensive coordinator some options and room to get creative with that trio.

Defensively, Will Muschamp is gone and Kevin Steele is in and the Tigers can only get better after last year’s debacle. The return of a healthy Carl Lawson at defensive end should do wonders for the Auburn defense and he could free up last year’s No. 3 recruit Byron Cowart to beat single blocking.
