NFL Draft 2016: Pro comparisons for top 10 prospects
By Gabe Encinas
The consensus thought seem Wentz seems to be Blake Bortles, which is fair. Both presumably taken in the first three picks of the draft, both coming from smaller programs. The size definitely helps the comparison, with both checking in at 6’5″ and around 235 pounds.
It took Bortles a couple of seasons, but he’s finally developing into one of the better quarterbacks in the league, making a case for the top 10. The Jacksonville Jaguars are now competitive in the AFC South and they can attribute that success to the play of their quarterback.
Given a couple of years, Carson Wentz can do the same thing. While Cleveland is a difficult place to play and win, especially after they lost a large amount of talent, Wentz has that same winning ability as Bortles. He was a winner at North Dakota State and he has all the tools to win at the next level.
He’s the prototypical quarterback that scouts drool over, with many thinking he’s the best prospect since Andrew Luck. While it’s unlikely that a team will trade with Tennessee to jump ahead of Cleveland for Wentz, he’s a can’t-miss prospect.
