The Los Angeles Rams traded for the top pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, but who will they take after making the blockbuster trade?

The Tennessee Titans were the owners of the first pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and projected to take offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil or cornerback Jalen Ramsey but they traded the pick in a blockbuster move to the Los Angeles Rams who are now on the clock.

Los Angeles moved up from No. 15 and gave up a haul to move to the top of the draft. The Rams packaged their first round pick, two second round picks and their third rounder as well as their first and third round picks next year to get in position to get a franchise quarterback.

This move wouldn’t have been done if the Rams weren’t targeting either North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz or Cal’s Jared Goff. They are the top two quarterback prospects in the draft and would represent a significant upgrade over Nick Foles, Case Keenum and Sean Mannion on the Rams depth chart.

The Rams didn’t move up to get Tunsil or Ramsey, but do they prefer Wentz or Goff?

Both have already worked out for the Rams who have two weeks to dive deeper into the tape of the quarterbacks and discuss with the rest of their war room who should be the first pick.

I think the Rams made this move to take Goff.

The Cal product would get a chance to stay in the state and that would allow the newly relocated team to the nation’s second largest market to get a star they can build around and market.

With Goff joining last year’s first round pic, Todd Gurley, the Rams have the makings of an offense that can complement their defense led by Aaron Donald that ranks among the best in the NFL.

The trade was a bold one for the Rams, but it was a necessary one to compete in a division with Carson Palmer and Russell Wilson if they want to be anything more than the third-place team in a competitive division.
