I Could Never Take the Place Of Your Man – USC Trojans

Tell-Tale Lyric: It was only last June
When her old man ran away
She couldn’t stop crying
‘Cause she knew he was gone to stay

The breakthrough double-album, Sign o’ the Times spawned a number of hit singles in 1987, and the pounding pop-anthem I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man, was a return to his 1999 days.

For the Trojans, it seems they can’t find anyone to take the place of championship winning coach, Pete Carroll. Since Carroll left the program 2009, the Trojans have failed to win the Pac-12, have lived through some pretty steep NCAA sanctions, and have gone through four different head coaches (not to mention a couple of athletic directors).

The USC faithful hope that the permanent hiring of twice interim coach Clay Helton will provide some stability and bring the championship winning ways back to Southern Cal, but that was also the hope for Lane Kiffin, Ed Orgeron, and Steve Sarkisian.

Will anyone take the place of their man?
