UAB running back Greg Bryant has died after he was shot in Miami on Saturday morning.

Greg Bryant died on Sunday morning, according to Lynda Figueredo of CBS 12. Bryant was found shot in a car in a southbound lane on I-95 around 4:45 am on Saturday morning and was listed in critical condition after being rushed to St. Mary’s hospital.

According to Figueredo’s report, Bryant was on his way home from Sugar Daddy’s when a vehicle pulled up to the side of his vehicle and shot him in the head. Bryant was in a medically induced coma to try and let some swelling subside as he fought for his life.

He was in town to spend Mother’s Day with his mother and grandmother.

There was a premature report midday on Saturday that Bryant had passed away and UAB issued a statement to say Bryant has died, but those reports were quickly refuted by the family.

Sadly, today’s reports of Bryant’s passing are all too real with Bryant’s grandmother Annette Kelly confirming the news to Figueredo that the 21-year-old had died.

Bryant was a former top recruit who signed with Notre Dame out of American Heritage high school. He transferred to UAB as part of their first recruiting class since restarting the football program after a one-year hiatus.
