Davis Webb transfers to Cal looking to boost 2017 NFL Draft
Senior quarterback Davis Webb has found his transfer destination in the California Golden Bears. Webb has one more year of eligibility and replaces Jared Goff in Sonny Dykes’ offense that should help his NFL Draft stock
Former Texas Tech starting quarterback Davis Webb is transferring to California, instead of Colorado where he previously committed. will be playing in the Pac-12 this fall, courtesy of ESPN.
Webb will join a system similar to the one he played in under Kliff Kingsbury at Texas Tech. Sonny Dykes pass happy, Bear-Raid system at Cal fits the former Red Raider’s skill-set well.
This is an impressive get for Cal because Webb initially committed to play for the Pac-12 opponent in Colorado. Apparently Dykes’ recent success with Goff who was the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft was an overriding factor in his decision to play for the Golden Bears.

If he can put together a nice senior season expect Webb to get an NFL job. His size is close to prototypical at 6’4″ and 230 pounds.
In fact, Mel Kiper ranks Webb as the No. 1 senior quarterback for next years draft. And the offense is tailor-made to match his skill-set.

This transfer puts the Golden Bears in solid position heading into the season. They looked like they would have to replace number overall pick Jared Goff with an unproven quarterback. Now, they have a two-year starter who has real production on his resume.
Webb will have a solid shot to win the job, as only one other quarterback saw the field in 2015. Sophomore Chase Forrest completed 10-of-18 passes for 162 yards, one touchdown and one interception for the Golden Bears.
In his two years under center, Webb threw for 5,557 yards, 46 touchdowns and 22 interceptions while completing 61.4 percent of his passes. His best year came as a freshman when he led the Red Raiders to an 8-5 record and a Holiday Bowl win while sharing time with Baker Mayfield.
In 2015, the team took a step back going 4-8 opening the starting quarterback job up. The dual-threat, total yards machine know as Patrick Mahomes took over and never looked back.

Overall, It was a tough situation in Texas Tech. He didn’t lose his job for poor performance. He lost it because Mahomes is an overall better athlete and collegiate quarterback. The move to Cal only helps Davis Webb’s draft stock as he climbs off the bench and back onto the field.
