The Michigan recruiting class added a four-star defensive end from Virginia.

Sunday is supposed to be a day of relaxation, but for the Michigan Wolverines, they were busy as they received a commitment for the class of 2017.

Four-star defensive end Luiji Vilain (Episcopal. Alexandria, VA) committed to the Wolverines Sunday afternoon, making the announcement via Twitter.

Vilain is the No. 102 player in the 2017 class, No. 8 weak-side defensive end, and the No. 3 player in the state of Virginia per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He was recruited to the Maize and Blue by linebackers coach Chris Partridge, who served as the primary recruiter while defensive line coach Greg Mattison served as the secondary recruiter.

Vilain was a highly regarded prospect across the country as he accumulated 28 total offers. In the end, the Wolverines won the recruiting battle.

Vilain told Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports what it means for him to be a part of the Michigan pageantry.

“To be a Wolverine it means excellence,” Vilain said. “Just a great school academically and just a great football program. That’s all I can think about when I think about Michigan. I think about excellence.”

“First of all it’s a great school academically. It’s a great football team. I made a connection with the coaching staff. Coach (Greg) Mattison is a really good guy. My mother spoke with the coaching staffs that were recruiting me and she felt Michigan was the best too.”

With this commitment, the Wolverine ’17 class is shaping up nicely, with five-star running back Christian McCaffery headlining the talented group. With 14 commitments in total, the commitment of Vilain now puts the class at No. 4 nationally and No. 2 in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Team Rankings.
