The Florida State recruiting class added five-star cornerback Stanford Samuels to give a major spark to an already loaded recruiting class.

Florida State was on the receiving end of a big commitment Wednesday as 2017 five-star cornerback Stanford Samuels (Hollywood, FL. Charles W. Flanagan) committed to the program. He tweeted his commitment earlier in the afternoon.

Samuels is the No. 23 player in the 2017 class, No. 3 cornerback, and the No. 5 player in the state of Florida per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Samuels was one of the most coveted prospects in the nation, notching 41 offers in total. Just from within the ACC, Clemson, Duke, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, and North Carolina State all extended offers his way.

On the Florida State front, he was recruited by linebackers coach Bill Miller who was the primary recruiter and Charles Kelly, the defensive coordinator who doubles as the defensive backs coach.

The Seminoles have been active in Samuels’ recruitment from the beginning, as they extended an offer to him on December 11, 2014. Following the offer, he took an unofficial visit on March 23, 2015. Kelly and Miller visited the prospect about a month later on April 20, and from there is when Samuels’ recruitment process began to heat up.

More from Saturday Blitz

Samuels attended a Florida State camp last year on July 16, and his interest never waned, as he came to campus for an unofficial visit that September. Things quieted down a bit until this year, when he attended the Seminoles’ Junior Day on February 27 and visited Tallahassee on March 26.

Kelly and Miller continued to be persistent as they visited Samuels again on April 18. The rewards of their persistence came full circle on Tuesday as he is now in the fold.

To date, Samuels is the only five-star commitment in a star-studded class that ranks No. 6 nationally and is tops in the ACC per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

He brings an edge to the secondary that should help Florida State continue their winning tradition as well as continue their recent string of successful cornerbacks.
