5. Ole Miss at LSU

Oct. 22- Tiger Stadium

This late season game will be one that helps decide the SEC West. Ole Miss and LSU will be need a win to either stay ahead or stay even with Alabama in the standings. Ole Miss soundly defeated the Tigers last season in Oxford and will look to do the same this season.

LSU should be rolling as the toughest team they will have faced before the Rebels are the Florida Gators. Fournette will be looking to run on a defense that he did not have much success against last season. However, Ole Miss has stout defensive line and the linebacker situation should be figured out by the time the Rebels head down to Death Valley. If LSU wants to be successful against the Landshark defense, then Brandon Harris has to be able to throw the ball on an experienced secondary.

Chad Kelly will be the driving force of the Ole Miss offense in this game. Kelly had a day last year against LSU, 4 total TD’s and 280 passing yards. Expect to see Kelly continue to be a superstar even against a tough defense.

The Rebel defense, if it can do what it did last year, should be able to contain Fournette. Fournette was held to 108 yards and no touchdowns last year against Ole Miss. Rebel defensive end Marquis Haynes has the speed to shut Fournette down on the edge. If Fournette is kept in check then the secondary will have to make sure the passing game gets no traction which would in turn give Fournette more opportunities.

Prediction: Rarely is a game between Ole Miss and LSU a blowout by either team. This rivalry game is always tough and a close game no matter the records of the teams. Ole Miss has more overall offensive firepower and their defense can contain Fournette. LSU’s defense will be tough but the edge goes to Chad Kelly.

Score: 35-27 Ole Miss wins
