Four-star wide receiver KD Nixon (Desoto, TX) decommitted from Tennessee on Sunday. He announced it via Twitter earlier Sunday evening and it was first reported by Ryan Bartow of 247Sports. The tweet has since been removed from his profile.

Nixon is the No. 290 player in his class, No. 38 wide receiver, and No. 43 player in the state of Texas per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Currently, Nixon has 18 offers on the table, with Missouri being the only other SEC team to extend him an offer.

He was recruited to the Vols by wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni. He was offered by the program on November 18, 2015, and named Tennessee his leaders on April 12, the same day he committed to the program.

Even with the decommitment, the Volunteers’ 2017 class is still very strong, boasting 17 commitments in total. They rank No. 9 nationally and No. 4 in the SEC per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

Where he will go is anyone’s guess. Whichever team he does go to will be the lucky recipients of his speed and big-play capabilities. He is particularly effective on short passes where he can get out into the open field and get a one-on-one matchup with a cornerback.

For Tennessee, this is an unfortunate but not devastating loss. They could have used his big-play capabilities, but they have enough talent on their current roster and in the ’17 class to put together a slew of successful seasons.
