Clemson Recruiting: Five-star WR Tee Higgins commits to Tigers
Dabo Swinney celebrated the Fourth of July by adding five-star wide receiver Tee Higgins to the Clemson recruiting class.
For many, fireworks are a part of the festivities for Fourth of July and for the Clemson Tigers, that was certainly the case on Monday. They already have the top quarterback in the 2017 class in Hunter Johnson and they landed 2017 five- star wide receiver Tee Higgins (Oak Ridge. Oak Ridge, TN), the top player in the state of Tennessee.
Higgins announced his commitment in a rather unique way, putting on a Clemson- colored fireworks show for the ages in a video from Bleacher Report.
Higgins is the No. 15 player in the 2017 class, No. 3 wide receiver, and the top player in the state of Tennessee per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Offered by 22 schools, Clemson was one of five ACC teams to extend an offer to the talented wideout. Florida State, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech all did so in addition to the Tigers.
He was recruited to the program by Jeff Scott, Clemson’s Wide Receivers Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.
Clemson has been involved in the recruitment of Higgins since the very beginning. They first extended an offer his way October 28, 2014, and they made his Top 10 list on June 24, 2015. He committed to the Tennessee Volunteers on August 24 but continued to take visits to other schools.
Earlier this winter is when he appeared to have a change of heart. After taking an unofficial visit to Clemson on January 30, he decommitted from the Volunteers one day after National Signing Day. Then in May, he released another Top 10 which included Clemson again and attended a school camp in June before committing Monday.
The Clemson 2017 recruiting class is shaping up to be very strong as they now have two five-star commitments in Higgins and Johnson and 11 commitments overall. The class currently ranks No. 9 nationally and is tops in the ACC per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

Higgins can get separation from his defender very well and uses all of his 6-foot-4 frame to go up and make the catch. He and Johnson could very well be one of the best wide receiver-quarterback combinations in a short matter of time.
