Brian Kelly added brute force to the offensive line with Hainsey’s commitment Sunday.

As The Opening winds down, commitments have begun to come flying. Notre Dame was the recipient of one of those as 2017 four-star offensive guard Robert Hainsey (IMG Academy. Bradenton FL) committed to the Irish. This news was first reported by Tom Loy of 247Sports.

Hainsey is the No. 70 player in the 2017 class, No. 4 offensive guard, and the No. 17 player in the state of Florida per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Hainsey had 26 offers on the table and was viewed as one of the top guards in the country. He was recruited to the Irish by Running Game Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach Harry Hiestand as well as Running Backs Coach Autry Denson.

On the Notre Dame front, he took an unofficial visit to South Bend on March 22 and was offered by the program that same day. He took another unofficial visit to the campus on June 18, and ended the process Sunday with the commitment.

With this pledge, the 2017 Notre Dame recruiting class continues to remain among the elite. With 15 commitments overall including 10 of the four-star variety, the class ranks No. 7 nationally and is the best class among the Independent Programs per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

The Irish are a tremendous fit for him. At 6-foot-4 275 pounds, Hainsey gives the Irish immediate size up front and that allows for their talented quarterbacks to have ample time in the pocket. He will be able to create holes for the running game and provide an intimidation factor as the Irish look to build off a tremendous season last year.
