With many picking him to be an Auburn Tiger, Tre McKitty surprised everyone by committing to Oregon.

With The Opening being held in Beaverton, Oregon, it seemed only fitting the Ducks received a commitment from one of the nation’s most coveted tight ends.  2017 three-star tight end Tre McKitty (IMG Academy. Bradenton, FL) committed to the Ducks late Sunday night. He made the announcement via Twitter.

McKitty is the No. 453 player in the ’17 class, No. 18 tight end, and the No. 61 player in the state of Florida per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Accumulating 32 offers in total, he was recruited to the Ducks by Special Teams Coach and Tight Ends Coordinator Tom Osborne as well as Matt Lubick, who doubles as the Passing Game Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach.

Oregon extended him an offer February 24, and he unofficially visited Eugene on June 9. Then, Sunday he announced his commitment to the program, surprising many who thought he would take his talents to Auburn.

With this pledge, the Ducks now have 10 commitments in a class that ranks No. 36 Nationally and No. 4 in the Pac-12 per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

At 6-foot-4, McKitty is a tremendous target to throw to and has a knack for getting into the open field. He can get separation from his defenders very well, and that would be an asset against Pac-12 cornerbacks. He gives Oregon a catalyst on offense, something that is needed to compete in the Pac-12. Furthermore, he gives them balance as his physical style of play complements the fast-paced Duck offense nicely.
