Alabama guard Alphonse Taylor suspended after DUI arrest
The punishment was handed down to Alabama Crimson Tide guard Alphonse Taylor after he was arrested on DUI charges on Sunday.
On Monday, it was announced by Alabama head coach Nick Saban that senior offensive guard Alphonse Taylor will be indefinitely suspended from the team following an incident Sunday in which he was arrested for driving under the influence and fleeing from the scene of an accident.
“We are very disappointed any time a player makes a choice that leads to this kind of behavior,” Saban said in a statement. “We are still in the process of gathering all of the details on the situation, but from a football standpoint, Alphonse Taylor has been indefinitely suspended from the team.”
Taylor started all 15 games last season for an offensive line that paved the way for Heisman winner Derrick Henry. He was recently named to the All-SEC second-team at SEC Media Days last week.
Taylor is the latest Alabama player to be arrested but it remains to be seen if he’ll miss any games for his DUI arrest. At SEC Media Days, Saban said he is most likely not going to suspend Cam Robinson and Laurence “Hootie” Jones who had their charges dropped after they were arrested on gun and marijuana charges in May.

If Taylor fulfills the obligations of the internal discipline imposed on the starting lineman, he likely will be in the starting lineup for the Tide’s season opener against the USC Trojans.
