Miami Recruiting: 4-star DE D.J. Johnson commits to ‘Canes
The Miami recruiting class added the commitment from four-star defensive end D.J Johnson.
Mark Richt continues to work his magic on the recruiting trail for the Miami Hurricanes, and started the week of with a splash as 2017 four-star weak-side defensive end D.J. Johnson (Luther Burbank. Sacramento, CA) committed to the program. He made the announcement via a YouTube video and this news was first reported by Andrew Ivins of 247Sports.
Johnson is the No. 102 player in the ’17 class, No. 8 weak-side defensive end, and the No. 15 player in the state of California per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
He received an astounding 90 offers in total, and was recruited to the Hurricanes by Defensive Line Coach Craig Kuligowski and Defensive Coordinator Manny Diaz.
On the Miami front, Johnson was first offered by the program on May 2, and took an unofficial visit to the campus on July 15. He then concluded the recruiting process with the commitment Monday. For Johnson, Miami seemed like the perfect fit.

“Miami seems like they have everything I want and they’ve exceeded my expectations so far,” Johnson said.
Johnson had a tremendous 2015 season for Luther Burbank, tallying 87 tackles (32 for a loss), 14.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries, all of which went for touchdowns.
With this commitment, the Miami 2017 class continues to improve the talent in the pipeline for Mark Richt With 18 commitments in total, including six four-star pledges, that is good enough for No. 8 nationally and tops in the ACC per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

Johnson shows tremendous defensive pursuit of the football and is particularly effective coming off the edge on a pass rush. He has the ability to become a catalyst in the future for the new-look Hurricanes.
