Ex-Florida QB Treon Harris gaining interest from several teams
Teams have begun to inquire about former Florida quarterback Treon Harris.
On Monday, former Florida Gators quarterback Treon Harris announced he was going to transfer, and now teams at all levels are beginning to line up and see if they can land the athletic quarterback.
None of the programs are as noteworthy as Florida, but Southern Miss, Texas State and Georgia State reportedly spoke to the Harris family and FCS programs such as Florida A&M, Howard, and Hampton have also made contact.
Other programs have gone a slightly different route, requesting the release of Harris so they have the option to make contact. Those teams include Minnesota, Kansas, SMU, Eastern Michigan, Jacksonville State, East Carolina, Coastal Carolina, and Mercer.
The Harris family plans to figure out which schools show serious interest by Monday and then set up a couple of visits to decide where he wants to go. Harris wants to be enrolled in school by August to take part in preseason camp and enroll in classes.
Last season, Harris completed 50 percent of his passes for 1,676 yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions after replacing the suspended Will Grier in the starting lineup.
I am intrigued at the wide range of teams that have shown interest in Harris. It seems as though he has no shortage of suitors, although none of them are marquee programs. My guess is the Miami native will choose a program that will give him a chance to start at quarterback, something Florida wasn’t going to do after asking him to play wide receiver.

And don’t be surprised if he continues his career on the FCS level so he’s eligible to play this season as opposed to sitting out the year if he transferred to another FBS program.
