TCU locked up head coach Gary Patterson with a new contract extension.

TCU is making sure that head coach Gary Patterson spends the rest of his career with the Horned Frogs. Patterson agreed to a contract extension on Tuesday that will keep him with the program through the 2021 season.

Chis Del Conte, TCU’s athletic director announced the deal Tuesday, saying Patterson is “synonymous with TCU and Fort Worth” and that the coach is more than just a football coach but also a valued member of the community. Terms of the deal were not made available at this time.

It is hard to argue with the results that Patterson has produced. In 16 seasons as the Horned Frogs’ head man, he has 143 total victories, making him the program’s winningest coach.

In particular, the results of the past two seasons have been very impressive. Going 23-3 over that time, including a 15-3 record in Big 12 contests.

As of 2014, he had a base salary of just over $3.9 million.

This is tremendous news for both the coach and the program. Too often, programs are inconsistent year after year due to the constant hiring of coaches and implementation of systems. Having consistency and stability throughout a program is key, and when it starts at the top with the head coach, that ensures a program will continue its winning ways.
