No one has become more famous or infamous without stepping a foot on the field than John Franklin III. Franklin recently became a TV star after his appearance on Netflix’s “Last Chance U”. The cocky, loud-mouthed Franklin served mostly as a backup at East Mississippi Community College. However, he was successful for the most part when his number was called.

Franklin threw for 733 yards, seven touchdowns, and just two interceptions. His rushing numbers are what stand out most. He rushed for 451 yards and nine touchdowns on 10.5 yards per carry. He never could wrestle the job from EMCC’s starter, Wyatt Roberts. He was too inconsistent in the air and it showed with his 58-percent completion percentage. Luckily for Auburn, Nick Marshall wasn’t a strong passer either but he still managed to lead Auburn to a SEC Title and played for the national championship.

For him to win the job from Jeremy Johnson and Sean White, he’ll need to rely on Gus Malzahn’s system like Marshall did. In terms of key players around him, Marcus Davis returns after lettering in his first three seasons. He has 66 catches for 491 yards and three touchdowns in his career. Fullback Chandler Cox doesn’t have any numbers to look at, but he made 10 starts at fullback his freshman year.

No skill position players on this offense are particularly All-SEC, but they have three offensive linemen back. Franklin will have plenty of time to get the ball out of his hands and into the fairly new playmakers.
