Ranking the 50 best college football players for 2016
Turbulent. That one word is the best way to describe Baylor’s offseason which was filled with sexual assault accusers coming out of the woodwork to speak about how their stories were stifled and swept under the rug by head coach Art Briles to protect his players. The head coach was let go and the program hired former Wake Forest head coach Jim Grobe as his replacement.
People are hoping that Grobe has the same offensive mindset as Briles, but that will be hard to do because even though he was a questionable figure in charge, he was an offensive genius. Baylor could even be known as Wide Receiver U with the type of talent the Bears put in the NFL on a regular basis.
It’s easy to get lost in the shuffle at wide out when you play with guys like Corey Coleman and Jay Lee, but junior KD Cannon is gearing up for a career-year in Waco.
As a freshman in 2014, Cannon burst onto the scene with 58 catches for 1,030 yards and eight touchdowns and he was looking like the real deal. He took a minor step back during his sophomore year with Coleman dominating, putting up 868 yards and six scores on 50 receptions.
Now that he is set to be the No. 1 receiver for the Bears’ potent offense, Seth Russell is going to capitalize on the junior’s elite route-running ability and breakaway speed. The kid can flat-out run and he makes it look so easy.
KD will be the next great Baylor receiver and he might just rack up 1,500 yards and 10-plus touchdown receptions this year.
