Ranking the 50 best college football players for 2016
It has been a turbulent offseason for junior Alabama offensive tackle Cam Robinson who was the top player at his position in the 2014 recruiting class and a top-five prospect overall.
Robinson was pulled over with teammate Hootie Jones back in May and he was arrested for possession and illegal carrying of a firearm — which was reportedly stolen. The charges were dropped and the All-American offensive tackle was given another shot, but it’s unclear how Nick Saban plans to punish him, but he has been suspended indefinitely.
Despite the poor decisions and the potential charges, Robinson has a whole new lease on life and he should realize just how lucky he is to be getting this second chance. He will likely start the season at left tackle until stated otherwise by Saban.
Although avoiding a suspension might cause Saban to get some harsh reaction from the college football world, he is also defending himself by stating that Robinson and Jones have been punished internally.
Getting back to football, though, Robinson is an All-American caliber left tackle who finished as a first-team SEC star as a sophomore. He protected Jake Coker’s blindside to perfection which led to a national title and blocked for Heisman-winning running back Derrick Henry. You could say that he had a stellar 2015 campaign.
