Ranking the 50 best college football players for 2016
With college football shifting a bit toward favoring dual-threat quarterbacks, Tennessee’s Joshua Dobbs could be the next elite player to take the SEC by storm. The Volunteers will be relying on him to produce at a high level this season since they are considered one of college football’s top national title contenders.
Dobbs is a former four-star dual-threat from Georgia who was heavily sought-after in 2013 but picking the Volunteers happened to help Tennessee point out a potential starter from day one.
The senior started four games as a true freshman in 2013, finishing the season with 695 passing yards and two touchdowns with six interceptions and he looked very shaky in the pocket. He rushed for another 189 yards and a score.
As a sophomore, he started just five games, passing for 1,206 yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions with 469 yards rushing and eight touchdowns on the ground. He looked much-improved, but he won the full-time starting job before the 2015 season and never looked back.
The third year for Dobbs was most impressive as he passed for 2,291 yards, 15 touchdowns, and just five interceptions with a 60 percent completion rate and another 671 yards and 11 touchdowns rushing. He was an All-SEC caliber player and looks to be one of the best quarterbacks in the country heading into 2016.
