Ranking the 50 best college football players for 2016
It was hard not to be excited for the arrival of five-star quarterback Josh Rosen to UCLA’s campus. Even for non-Bruin fans, the potential of the young gunslinger who was ranked as the top quarterback in the country was through the roof and the starting job was vacant after the departure of Brett Hundley.
Rosen came in and won over the coaching staff nearly instantly. He started from Day One and never really looked rattled. He looked like a bonafide superstar under center and another year of experience will build on that view.
Jim Mora gave him the nod and Rosen responded by passing for 3,670 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions while completing 60 percent of his passes for the 8-5 Bruins. It was an underwhelming season for UCLA as a whole, but the future is bright behind the arm of this young Bellflower, Calif., native.
The first-year quarterback won all sorts of awards in his first year such as college football’s Freshman of the Year, Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year, Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year and was named a Freshman All-American. This kid can flat-out play and he is well on his way to shattering all-time UCLA passing records.
