Ranking the 50 best college football players for 2016
When the name ‘Tim Williams’ is spoken in SEC circles, the first thing that comes to mind is his elite pass-rushing ability. The Crimson Tide’s senior outside linebacker causes so many problems for opposing offenses, it’s scary.
Williams even garnered a huge compliment from former NFL linebacker standout, Shawne Merriman, according to AL.com‘s Matt Zenitz.
"“He’s just disruptive as hell,” Merriman said. “Even when he didn’t get the sack, he causes a lot of disruption back there.”"
Merriman is right, the 6-foot-4, 240-pound Baton Rouge-native is such an annoyance to offenses, opposing quarterbacks can just never get comfortable in the pocket when playing against Alabama.
You might look at his career numbers and wonder why he gets such high praise. Through his first two seasons with the Crimson Tide, Williams had just eight total tackles, 2.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks. However, it wasn’t until his junior year that people starting to take notice of his pass-rushing dominance.
The then-junior played in all 15 games for the Crimson Tide, recording 10.5 sacks, which was second on the team. He also added 12.5 tackles for loss, four quarterback hurries, and a pass breakup during his third season in Tuscaloosa.
Expect a monster year from the senior linebacker who will play a much larger role in this defense.
